What is SPAB certification?
California law (CVC §545, §12517) requires student transportation for school-sponsored activities to be performed by a SPAB-certified carrier or a yellow school bus. SPAB (School Pupil Activity Bus) certification covers our drivers (Special Driver Certificate, fingerprint clearance, drug-testing program) and our vehicles (annual CHP inspection, specific equipment requirements).
When do you need a SPAB bus?
Any school-sponsored trip: field trips, athletic events, academic competitions, performing-arts travel, youth retreats. Non-school-sponsored trips (e.g., a family booking a private bus) do not require SPAB — but most schools require SPAB regardless. If you're booking transportation through a school district, athletic department, or PTA-sponsored event, ask whether SPAB is required.

High-school and youth athletic teams represent a significant portion of our SPAB volume. Football, basketball, soccer, track, swim, lacrosse, and rugby teams all book SPAB-certified 37 and 56-passenger units for league games, tournament weekends, and overnight trips. Equipment bays handle full team gear; reclining seats keep athletes comfortable for long-distance travel.
Field trips and academic travel
K-12 field trips to Bay Area museums, science centers, performing-arts venues, college visits, and outdoor education programs (Naturebridge, NatureBridge, Yosemite Institute, Coyote Point) are common SPAB bookings. We coordinate driver staging, parking, and pickup timing with the lead teacher or trip coordinator.
Performing-arts and academic competition travel
Marching bands, orchestras, choirs, drama programs, and academic competition teams (Mock Trial, Speech & Debate, Science Olympiad) frequently book SPAB transportation for festivals, competitions, and adjudication events. Instrument storage in the rear bay is included; we coordinate equipment loading with the program director.
Booking school transportation
Lead time for SPAB trips is typically 2–6 weeks; tournament-driven athletic travel sometimes happens with shorter notice. We honor district insurance and certification requirements without delay. Net-30 or PO billing standard for schools.
ADA-accessible SPAB service
ADA-equipped SPAB-certified units with hydraulic wheelchair lifts are available on request. We recommend specifying ADA-required at the time of booking for any trip with a student in a wheelchair. Drivers are trained in lift operation, securement, and student-passenger transfer assistance.

What insurance do you carry?+
